English has always been one of my favorite subjects over many others. Growing up writing always came easy to me and I've always been able to think and produce more adequately compared to my peers which always came in handy since English has always been a required subject. I feel as if writing is an amazing way to express yourself. When you write it is absolutely endless with words and phrases describing how you feel or think. Throughout high school I learned how to express myself more and more each year. I always had an English teacher that gave me little tips such as, explaining myself clearly and concise and not getting writers block. Each year I learned a little more about writing and was able to make way more improvements. Though I can say that I learned the most in English this …show more content…
Specifically I learned a bit more about commas and strategies to develop my writing and have it look and sound more professional. Writing I could say comes naturally to me, not in the sense that I come up with topics fast or that my work is amazing but when I start writing , it is hard for me to stop. As I am in the middle of writing, ideas just constantly flow through my mind which makes me not want to stop. If I had to choose what my favorite essay was from this semester it would have to be essay five. This has to be the best essay I written because I wrote it quickly and I felt confident about it after I wrote it. My worst essay would probably be essay number two because it was unstructured and didn't have many strong points or a strong topic sentence.I believe I am ready to take the next step on to the higher English class and take all the skills I've learned. Everything this semester has taught me will move on with me to my next english class and even further on in my
In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.
This semester has impacted me and my writing abilities greatly. I feel I have improved in all aspects of writing. Throughout High school writing was never my preferred subject, but after taking this class I have developed an interest in writing and no longer look at it as a chore, but more as a method to express myself.
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe
English has never been my favorite class to take. I was more interested in math because there is one answer to a question and that is it. With English, everyone writes differently. Style is difficult to grade and there is not a yes or no answer to an essay.
The subjects that I excel most in are Mathematics and English. My grades in those classes are always above average. I believe that math come very easy to me, and I grasp an understanding fairly quickly. I am naturally a hard worker, so when I’m working on a math problem I will usually continue working on it until I get the right answer. Math is also something that I enjoy doing, which can contribute to how much effort and time I put into it. I believe that I have excelled in English because I have a way with words. I may not be able to express my feelings and thoughts as well verbally, but writing makes up for it. My style of writing is very candid, and I strike people with the reality of things. I surprise myself on the subjects I write about that usually bypass my thoughts. Writing explores and exercises my thoughts which show me what I’m truly capable
As for college so far this year, my writing has improved. English 101 has taught me more about developing my papers than what I previously knew about writing. Revision is an important part when finalizing any of my papers. As I wrap up writing each essay, going back over it to make sure that it all the readers will understand the point of the paper. As this semester comes to an end, I am able to gain insight of structure through the significance of the PIE format, more organized ideas, and rereading sentences with correct use of grammar.
This transcript, an extract taken from one of the creative writing controlled assessments I submitted for my GCSE English Language studies, is a sociolect between two East-End Londoners. The complicity and the natural language employed within this private exchange denote a long-term relationship between two middle-class, middle-aged women, on the same intellectual level who are having a tease - a literal 'dig'- winding each other while carrying out casual gardening work.
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I
With every paper I write I learn something new. Shortly after starting my first semester of college I realized I would be writing a lot of papers. From term papers in every class, to an English paper due every few weeks. In English 101 I wrote a persuasive paper. With the coming to terms assignment I really dug into someone else’s persuasive paper and dissected it piece by piece. I recalled the rules to writing a persuasive paper and compared it with the op-ed article. I really enjoyed that I was able to do that because I felt that I learned something and I was able to apply my knowledge in a later class. Going through the writing process for this paper I learned a lot. To dissect an article and pick out the project, aims, methods, and materials
The purpose of doing this confuses me, and appears absolutely counter-productive in teaching people to effectively use language, apparently causing a decrease in the ability to communicate information, as suggested in chapter ‘4.1 the tate era and beyond’ stating success in teaching the English language, during Tate’s reign as a English language official, was restricted by ‘rigid learning activities’ in an attempt to ‘improve’ the English language in the strictest sense (Bernard, p 2- 4). However thanks to Functional grammar, the knowledge provided through the course of the English Language at Sunshine Coast University has been very helpful in differentiating between the interpretation of grammatical aspects, usage of punctuation, and parts of speech, in turn allowing me to improve in assessing my drafts for assessment items, and utilise the correct tense, language, and text structure to formulate coherent sentences and
Throughout the course this semester I have learned a lot about writing and my personal writing process and skills. The assignments that stand out and helped me the most were the literacy narrative and the Fine Art essay. I think that these two were the most influential to my writing practice because they both involved topics and styles that I really enjoy writing about. The Literacy Narrative forced me to write in new ways and a new thinking practices that I didn't use before. And the Fine Art of essay was something that I enjoyed writing about and composing it in more of a poetic form and I liked being able to have the option of making my own.
English has never been my strong suit. I always hated English simply, because I never concerned myself as a writer. I always stuck to the bare minimum and was pleased to know that I passed. I honestly never tried hard in English because I never felt good enough. I did not see myself as a confident writer and I am not sure I ever will. Since, being enrolled in English 201, it supplied some challenges that I was not ready for and felt unsuited for. Along the way, I learn some valuable lessons that I will utilize in my college career.
I have changed from who I was at the beginning of the year. I feel that English class has really let me grow as a person and a student. I feel more open to talking with different people and doing different things. I am still not to fond of the idea of talking in front of people but I feel that I am better than I was at the start of the year. And I feel like I like learn more about real life problems through books.
Writing in general takes roughly around 5 hours of my day. Texting takes up most of the 5 or so hours. Web browsing, and school is the other percentages of my writing time.
At the beginning of this class I was nervous on how this semester will go and whether or not I will succeed to my fullest potential in English. With that in my mind I still was trying my best to work at getting better, despite how much it made me cringe at the thought of it. My perspective of writing began to change as time went on, the assignments were based on interesting topics which made it a bit bearable for me. I’ve learned that you have to make the steps to get to the perfect paper. A paper requires you to brainstorm, make an outline, and writing your rough draft to get that feedback you need before finishing up that final draft. During this class I have also learned where to put my thesis and that I don’t need to have that three point subtopics of what you should talk about. The writing length started getting longer and I was a bit skeptical on how I can get to the word count or what will I talk about within my papers, but I have
