Question

Explain several reasons why shock tends to become
progressively more serious.

Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction

The circulatory system does not provide enough blood to peripheral tissues to meet fundamental metabolic needs. Oxygen and nutrient requirements and incomplete elimination of metabolic waste from affected tissues. Shock can result from various physiological mechanisms, including sudden decreases in total blood volume due to acute blood loss, as in severe hemorrhages, sudden decreases in cardiac output, as in myocardial infarction (heart attack), and generalized dilatation of blood vessels, as in some forms of infection.

Step 2

Shock occurs when there is not enough blood flowing around your body. That's a potentially fatal medical emergency. Some of the causes of shock include uncontrolled bleeding, severe burns, and damage to the spine. A decrease in blood pressure reduces the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the vital organs of a person such as his brain, heart, and lungs. If blood flow is not re-established, the person may die from complications due to lack of oxygen supply to the main organs (hypoxia).
