To review:
The structural features of lymphatic capillaries and their comparison with blood capillaries.
Introduction:
The circulatory system is associated with the transportation of blood and various dissolved essential materials to different parts of the body. There are various structures that are associated with the circulatory system, in order to complete its tasks. Several structures perform the same function at different levels of the body but are structurally different.
Explanation of Solution
Lymphatic capillaries are thin-walled permeable vessels connected to the areolar connective tissue of the blood capillaries. They carry the lymphatic fluid returning after the blood circulation from different parts of the body. Blood capillaries are the thinnest components of arteries and veins which are in direct contact with the tissues that exchange gases and other materials for respiration. The differences between the lymphatic capillaries and the blood capillaries are summarized below:

- When the tissue swell down due to injury, gaps in the lymphatic capillaries open allowing fluid to flow from the blood capillary to the lymphatic capillary? True or false?arrow_forwardWhat cells does lymph fluid contain?arrow_forward(a) The lymphatic system is a part of the circulatory system and a vital part of the immune system. It is a network of tubes throughout the body that drains fluid (called lymph) from tissues and empties it back into the bloodstream. (i) Give a brief explanation why the lymphatic system is a one-way system, whereas the blood vascular system is a two-way system. (ii) Point out TWO (2) type of infections that may cause the lymph nodes to swell.arrow_forward
